Trek the Dramatic Simien Mountains

Overview
This tour starts and finishes in Gonder and is typically combined with one of the other tours that we offer such as the Northern Historic Tour. You will follow centuries old paths that crisscross the park connecting villages with traditional pastures. The trekking is fairly level with some long but not-so-steep climbing and descending.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Drive from Gonder to the Simien Mountains and Trek to Sankaber
In the morning after breakfast drive to Simien Mountains National Park. After 100km arrive in Debark and the park headquarters to meet up with the local guide and scout. Then drive further (2-3hrs) where we will start the trek. The Simien Mts. National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its dramatic highland scenery. It is also world renowned for its endemic wildlife including the Walia Ibex, Ethiopian Wolf, and the Gelada Baboon. Overnight camping at Sankaber.
Day 2- Trek Sankaber to Geech
In the morning after breakfast trek Sankaber to Geech (5-6hrs). En route view and admire the endemic Gelada Baboons and the spectacular scenery, overnight camping in Geech.
Day 3- Trek Geech to Imet GoGo and Saha and back to Geech
After a relaxed breakfast trek to the peaks of Imet GoGo and Saha (5-6 hrs) to see the dramatic view of the Simien Mountains National Park. Then trek back, overnight camping in Geech.
Day 4- Trek Geech to Chenek via Kedadit
Early in the morning after breakfast trek from Geech to Chenek (8-9 hrs) on the way observing the endemic Walia Ibex and the breathtaking rock formations. Overnight camping in Chenek.
Day 5 – Trek Chenek to Mt. Bwahit Ras then Drive Back to Gonder
In the early morning trek to the summit of Bwahit Ras the second highest peak in the park (4430m) to see the breathtaking views. Return to Chenek and meet the car at Chenek base camp. Then drive back to Gonder. Arrive in Gonder in the late afternoon.
